Our beloved brother Shaykh ibn ‘Abd Al-Ghani narrates the following story in the Arabic forum. He [May Allah Preserve him] writes: “The story of Uwais Al-Qarni was mentioned in Sahih Muslim as well as in other books. Now even though he was from the Tabi’een and did not see the Messenger [Salah Allahu Alaihi wa salam], the Messenger [Salah Allahu Alaihi wa salam] had advised ‘Umar ibn Al-Khatab [Radiya Allahu ‘Anhu] that if he meets [Uwais] then he, ‘Umar, should ask [Uwais] to ask Allah to forgive him and to make supplication for him.

Austria: 54% see Islam as threat to West According to a recent IMAS study, 59% of Austrians are 'somewhat opposed' to building minarets.  There's a big gap between the public opinion and what is expressed. Just over 20% of Austrians describe themselves as religious, compared to 30% 35 years ago.  The ethnic population differs clearly from the Muslim population.  54% of Austrians – slightly more men than women, older people more than younger – see Islam as a 'threat for the West'.  The respondents have a growing sense that such views can't be talked about openly.  This according to a large-scale study by the IMAS agency on the topic of 'religion and freedom', conducted for the Internationalen Instituts für Liberale Politik (International Institute for Liberal Policy) and obtained exclusive by Presse. Only 4% would agree if a family member would marry a Muslims.  By 3% of respondents that was already the case, and in Vienna it was above average.

Amsterdam: Moroccans burglarizing each other 0

Amsterdam: Moroccans burglarizing each other Moroccan residents of Amsterdam are increasingly breaking into each other's houses, for example to steal dowries. According to Joke Padmos, spokesperson of the Slotervaart district, this is really a new trend.  “It's alarming how much the number of home burglaries is rising.  Part of it is due to shops being better secured, but it also has to do here with the phenomenon of Moroccans breaking into each other's houses.  They know, for example, that there was a wedding and go looking for the dowry.” According to Padmos, district mayor Marcouch has gotten letters from other parts of the country about this problem.  Meanwhile, she says that things are going very well in the neighborhood when it comes to muggings and breaking into cars.  “The number of muggings has been halved and breaking into cars has almost disappeared from the scene.  But those house burglaries are therefore a problem and we'll now deal with that.” 1,400 families in Sloterparkwijk were provided with anti-burglary liquid, with lets them spray valuables with micro-dots of synthetic DNA. If the police locates the stolen goods, the microdots, which can be seen with a microscope, show who's the rightful owner

UK: Mosques play key role in raising awareness about hepatitis C 0

UK: Mosques play key role in raising awareness about hepatitis C A screening programme in mosques, rather than in hospitals, has led to new thinking on how to approach health issues Mosques across the UK have been doubling as makeshift medical centres, with queues of worshippers lining up to have saliva swabs taken, in what could prove to be a model for identifying future health problems. In a unique collaboration, a team from the Royal London hospital in east London – led by Graham Foster, a professor of hepatology and a leading authority on viral liver disease – embarked five years ago on a mass viral hepatitis screening programme of apparently healthy people of south Asian origin in mosques and community centres.

Norway: 61.5% of Muslims think demonstrations are unreasonable, 44% see signs of radicalization There were protests by Muslims on both Friday (~3,000 people ) and Saturday (~300 people).  Both were mostly peaceful, and the organizers put great emphasis that it would be so, though one of the speakers in the Friday protest 'warned' Norway of a terrorist attack if things continue as they are.  Aftenposten also reports people shouted “bomb, bomb”, but their video report about it doesn't show that.  There's an interview with one of the protest guards in English here (~2:00) and video of the Saturday protest here . Meanwhile, there were actually riots in Oslo.  several people were arrested on both Thursday and Friday night during riots which ensued after the police evicted squatters.  The municipality says the place is a fire hazard.  The house had been occupied by about 20 students, unemployed people and artists.
